Compulsory Health Insurance - resident visa holder

By the end of 2016, all Dubai resident visa holders are obliged to have a Dubai health insurance. The Dubai Health Insurance Law No. 11 of 2013 came into effect on 1 January 2014 and has been implemented in phases. The law is applicable to visa holders of mainland companies, as well as Free Zone companies.

As an employer, you are required to have a health insurance in place for your staff. In order to renew an employee’s visa, or your own visa in case you are the director or general manager, a valid health insurance needs to be in place. Failure to comply with the Dubai Health Insurance Law can result in large fines.

Health plans vary in price, and start relatively cheap. If you have a Free Zone company and a resident visa, but if you do not actually reside in the UAE and have your health insurance in your actual country of residence or international health insurance, you can opt for one of the cheaper UAE health plans, as long as it abides with the Dubai Health Insurance Law.

The Watermill Consultants can assist you with obtaining health insurance for yourself, or your employees. Contact us today if you need assistance with getting health insurance for yourself, or your employees in Dubai. Just make sure it is all in place before 31 December 2016!
